Johann Sebastian Bach in Thuringia

For a period of over 130 years, members of the Bach family performed as organists of St. George's Church in Eisenach, where Johann Sebastian Bach was born and baptized in 1685. At the age of 18, Bach had his first engagement as an organist at Arnstadt's New Church. Here Bach fell in love, came to blows with his students and tested his limits.

To celebrate its famous son, the largest Bach museum in the world opened its doors in Eisenach in 1907, splendidly renovated in 2007 with a new extension of an outstanding permanent exhibition of Bach's life and works. The tour will take you to both cities, comprising a visit to the Bach Church, where a recital of his works on the original organ marks a special highlight, and the Bach House in Eisenach, with the original living quarters of the Bach family.
